As a lifelong South Dakotan I enjoy getting out seeing the natural wonders in our great state. But I also enjoy getting out and seeing the rest of our great country.
I’ve been on a whitewater raft trip with a group of friends almost every year for over 17 years. All our trips are private permit self-guided and self-supported trips. I’ve been down the Grand Canyon several times, the Snake River through Hells Canyon three times, the Middle Fork of the Salmon River a couple of times with one being a Middle Fork and Main Salmon combo trip. A trip down the Rio Chama River in NM with my son Nick and a lot of other rivers in-between.
The wife Jodi and I not long ago got to spend some time hiking in Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, and Capitol Reef National Park. If you are heading to Capitol Reef National Park from the Moab area, try to stop and hike Little Wild Horse Canyon. It's a beautiful slot canyon near Utah's Goblin Valley State Park.
My daughter Ally offered to take me for a hike for my birthday in September. We summited a couple of Colorado’s 14ers. Grays Peak at 14,278’, which is the highest point on the Continental Divide, and Torreys Peak at 14,275’
It is always good to get out and see the rest of our county but it is always good to get back home to the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota.
